Long Response:
1. Do you think the fires in the Amazon are a big issue?
I believe they are a big issue because the world gets oxygen from the Amazon Rainforest and it's vital to the health of our planet. The Amazon is known as the lungs of the Earth, without them, we can't breathe.
2. Should leaders be allowed refuse help from other countries for events like this?
When we have catastrophic events that can change the health of many people extensively, not even in our own countries, I don't think governments should have the right to refuse help. Many people are being affected and it's important to deal with the situation if it can be helped, rather than be childish and put people in danger. But when people offer help, there should not be ulterior motives, like taking advantage of the land they helped later on.
3. Are you surprised the US has not offered any direct support yet?
I am not surprised. The government deals with international relations, deals, aiding, etc. I know that citizens have been interested in helping because they are concerned about the planet and the health of the people who live in the regions around and in the amazon, but I'm not surprised that the government has not gotten involved. They would not see a benefit of just "giving away" money, I would infer.
4. Should the US get involved?
I don't think so. Brazil has its own leader who is already refusing aid from other countries, he says he has the fires under control and there's no reason for him to listen to the Americans. We're known as manipulative and as having ulterior motives so I believe it would cause more problems between governments so it wouldn't be a wise decision to get involved when they can already have the funds to help their land. Maybe we should focus on making our country more eco- friendly though.
