The man who played the violin

In a commonplace environment at an unexpected hour:

How do we perceive beauty?

We perceive beauty based on our interests and aesthetics. Our morals help us define what is beautiful as well. For example, some people may believe that cannibals are beautiful because of their creativity through how they eat someone, while someone may think that cannibals are horrible and disgusting people, due to the fact that they take away a human's right to life. It's mainly our morals that help us decide if we want to feel in awe of something. Humans as a community are always looking for change and progressing so when we do see something that we perceive as beautiful it can truly be a breakthrough. For example, if we are late for work and we're in a rush but we hear a bird singing and we see that it's very colorful, we may believe it's beautiful because it grabbed our attention, we value beautiful things.

Do we stop to appreciate it enough?

I'd say we don't stop to appreciate beauty enough because we move on very quickly. I think that we'd benefit from stopping and staring to not feel as much anxiety, we'd know that there are times that we can stop and wait, because we're not running out of time and it's okay to shift your priorities. We always encounter different scenarios in which we can appreciate the beauty of life and what the world has to offer but our mind's have created a survival mode where we think we must move on and keep pushing; I believe that human minds are powerful enough to go against our animal instincts and learn to step back and look at what's going on around you.

Can we recognize the talent in an unexpected context?
It truly depends on a person, we're not looking for it so it truly depends on what your mind is thinking of. Your head may be thinking about you being late for work, what they're going to ask you at your job interview, what grade you're going to get at school, if the walk home will be dangerous, or other stressful things. Stress puts us in fight or flight mode and it's all our brain thinks about. So when something is unexpected, we usually don't see the talent because we are preoccupied with the thoughts of life's challenges. SOme people are enlightened and go throughout their days with ease and do see talent unfold before them, even when they weren't searching for it. It makes life feel rewarding and you feel a sense of peace or even community with your surroundings.

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world playing the best music ever written, how many other things are we missing?

We're missing a lot. The amount is endless. But it really matters what a person values as beautiful. They may believe that a baby slug is wonderful and they stop to look at it slugging by, or that even getting a raise is beautiful because their hard work paid off. Beauty is subjective and it's truly the feeling of beauty that matters. Someone may not have enjoyed the man's violin because they find other things beautiful, like rushing home and seeing their new born baby girl. Things in this life are special, but beauty is all around us and it's never ending. We just have to look around and see something to value and be happy about, that's beauty.

5. Which book would you like to read after reading the reviews on page D1 "Prose about verses"?

Long Response:

Read the story on page B6 "The only superstar is Jesus"
Answer the following:

1. Summarize the story in one paragraph

Kanye West perormed a "Sunday Service" concert in Joel Osteen's Lakewood Church in Houston. He preached about God and Jesus and claimed that he recently converted to Christianity.

2. What did West say was his lowest point?

A time in the hospital in 2016 after a "mental breakdown".

3. Have you listened to any of the songs on "Jesus is King"

I have not listened to any of Kanye's new album.

4. Did you like any of them?

I haven't heard any of it.

5. What did he talk about during his speech at the mega-church?

He spoke of Jesus, God, his change to Christianity, money, fame, the Devil, strip clubs, religion, and service to God.

6. Do you know who Joel Osteen is?

I do not know who Joel Osteen is.

7. Do you think West has "found Jesus" and is a changed man? (preface for this question, West and other rappers have created multiple albums covering topics like sex, police brutality, etc. Lyrics for many of West's songs include those topics.)

I have no way of knowing this because I don't know West personally and I have never heard him speak. I've only ever read quotes and I feel as though it's different then listening to someone. My guess is that he's not a changed man, Kanye West is known as a very dramatic person who will do different things for attention so based on his past my guess is that no, he hasn't changed, but I wouldn't know.

Feature story brainstorm

1. Who is your main subject?
My older sister, Sophia Clifton
2. Supporting interviews (who else do you need to talk to, minimum 2 other people)?
My little brother Renato and my Mom Norma Ogaz.
3. What is the topic or potential topic?
The topic could be what led my sister to quit her veganism and what contributed to her loss of passion about the lifestyle, she was a vegan for three years.

4. Which angle from above will you write the story?
Human interest angle

5. Then to help you get going faster, come up with 20 questions that you can ask your main subject. Type these in your blog.
-Why were you vegan?
-What is the main reason that compelled you to be vegan/ plant based?
-Would you recommend veganism for others? And why?
-How did veganism affect you socially?
- How did veganism affect you overall?
-When did you stop being vegan and how long were you vegan for?
- What caused you to stop being vegan?
- What effect did stopping veganism have on your body?
- How did you feel emotionally when you stopped being vegan?
-Were there any social effects to quitting your plant based lifestyle?
- Would you ever consider going back to that lifestyle?
- Branching out on reasons why she quit veganism.
6. Once you complete that portion, you need to come up with 5-10 questions you need to ask your supporting interviews. Type these into your blog. You may need different questions for each supporting subject.
- Would you ever be vegan? why or why not?
- How would being vegan change you?
- Why do you think Sophia stopped vegan?
- How would we help Sophia get back her passion for her plant based diet?
- How could we help her promote the health she once had?

7. You will need to do a little research on the topic you expect to interview your main subject about. Take a little time and do some google searching - find at least 5 new things about the intended topic you should know before you interview your main subject. List those on your blog.
-Veganism is the practice of abstaining from the use of animal products, particularly in diet, and an associated philosophy that rejects the commodity status of animals. A follower of the diet or the philosophy is known as a vegan. Distinctions may be made between several categories of veganism.
-Vegan diets may provide an array of health benefits. For the most part, the exact reasons why these benefits occur are not fully known. That said, until further research emerges, it can only benefit you to increase the amount of nutrient-rich, whole plant foods in your diet.
-Reasons to become vegan, animals, philosophy, health benefits.
A plant-based diet is a diet consisting mostly or entirely of foods derived from plants, including vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, legumes and fruits, and with few or no animal products. A plant based-diet is not necessarily vegetarian.
- Effects on a person's mentality that veganism has
- effects on the planet.

8. Write when you plan to conduct the interview(s)?
Any time over the thanksgiving break when they're free.

9. Where you will interview them (some interviews are better to do in the persons environment, while others should be done in public places, ALL interviews should be done in person)?
I think in our dining room or living room because it's comfortable there.

10. How will you record the information? (taking notes is ideal, and if you want to record the conversation you MUST get permission. You can do both if they will allow you to record, this is a really strong technique that you could use.)
I will write notes and ask for permission abut recording their voice.

The Golden Voice

Ted Williams "The man with the Golden Voice" was able to find his big break and went from a homeless man in Ohio with a talent, to a man with a 300, 000 dollar book deal and working voice over jobs with multiple companies, but had remained homeless for over a year because he is a convicted felon, he could not find a home to rent.

He has had some bad business deals but is able to find more work and a new agent. He has had struggles with depression since his fame but has found passion to help in his community, especially the homeless. He was taken advantage of by his managers because he did not have knowledge of business aspects.

He had his own radio show called The Golden Voice Show until 2016, when he shifted job titles and began working as a sportscaster for WWGH-FM in Marion, Ohio. He works there to this day and is reconstructing his relationships with his children.
